There is no sound when I play CDs or Audio files

Before we start:

Make sure the speakers are connected to the correct jack on your computer.
If you have powered speakers, make sure they are on and the volume turned up.
Test your speakers on another computer or different audio source.
 

If your computer was working properly at an earlier time:

If the laptop was working fine at some point, I suggest you do a "System Restore" which rolls the system settings back to the last known working configuration. To access System Restore click on START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.  For more information on the restore feature, please Click Here.

  
 

Let us make sure the sound driver is installed correctly:

  1. Click on Start  then click on “Control Panel”

           


  2.From the "Control Panel" window, click on "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices"

    

3- From the "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices" window click on "Sounds and Audio Devices"

  

4- From the "Sounds and Audio Devices" make sure there is a sound device listed ( ) and is not muted ( )

  

   If there is no sound device listed, install the sound card driver. If it is muted, uncheck the box to un-mute it.
   If this does not resolve your issue, continue with this troubleshooting.

5-From the same window "Sounds and Audio Devices", click on Advanced.

  

6-In the "Volume Control" window, make sure all controls at least half way up and none muted. The window should look like this:

  

If you are unable to hear any sound, make sure you go through “Before we start check list” at the beginning of this article or contact the manufacturer of your computer or sound card.
