You went away for couple of weeks and toke tons of pictures. Your friends are asking you to email them the pictures. You transferred the pictures to your computer then you realized they are huge in size. It takes forever to attach one picture and when you send it, it bounces back as undeliverable because you exceeded the maximum attachment size allowed.

There is a simple solution to this problem and you do not have to buy any additional software.

Before we start check list:

Make sure you have a backup copy of your original pictures. These pictures are you "negatives". Always edit a copy of the original picture.
Reducing the size of an image will reduce the quality of the picture. You may not notice it on your monitor but will definitely notice it when you print the picture.
Most digital cameras will use JPEG format to save the image. This format is perfect for emailing purposes.

To reduce the size of an image:

 1. Open the folder containing the images. Right-click on the picture then go to Open With then click on Paint.

 2. The picture will open with a program called Paint. The window you will see will look like this.

 3. From the menu bar, click on Image. Then click on Stretch/Skew...

 4. From the Stretch/Skew window change the Horizontal and Vertical values. The smaller the number, the smaller the resulting image. NOTE: Make sure the number in the Horizontal and the Vertical field are the same (start with 25 in both fields). Click OK to close the dialog box.

 5. Save the resulting image by clicking on File then Save As...

 6. You will see the dialog box below. Name the new image. Use a meaningful name (e.g. SmallSunset) and make sure the

Save as type is JPEG then click OK.

This resulting picture will be much smaller and easier to attach and send via email.
