This article will help you connect to your wireless network.

Before we start check list:

Your computer must be wireless capable.

Make sure your router is indeed a wireless router.

Is your router plugged in and connected correctly? Please check with your internet service provider and manual if necessary.

Most laptops allow you to turn the wireless feature on and off. Refer to your laptop's manual to make sure the wireless feature is on.

Contact your internet service provider to make sure your account is active and your network is connected in a way that supports their configuration.

If your computer was working properly at an earlier time:

If the laptop was working fine at some point, I suggest you do a "System Restore" which rolls the system settings back to the last known working configuration. To access System Restore click on START > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.  For more information on the restore feature, please Click Here.
 

  

 

If you never connected to your wireless network, let us try to find it:
 

  1. Click on Start  then click on “Control Panel.”

 

 

  1. In the Control Panel window, click on “Network and Internet Connections.”

 

 

  1. In the “Network and Internet Connections” window, click on “Network Connections.”

 

 

  1. Once you are in the Network Connections window, right-click on your wireless connection then select “View available wireless networks”

     
     
  2. If your wireless network is a secured network, please refer to your router's manual to make sure your wireless network is unsecured for the purpose of testing your wireless card.

 

NOTE: It is not recommend to leave your wireless network unsecured. This step just for testing purpose.

 

  1. If your wireless network is listed, your wireless adapter is functioning properly. If you can’t connect to your wireless router, make sure you go through “Before we start check list” at the beginning of this article. If you are still having problems, you can contact the manufacturer or continue with this trouble shooting.

 

If you  see the below window when you click on "View available networks":
 

 

This means, another program is managing your wireless network. Please find out which program or give Windows the right to manage your wireless networks. You can do that by clicking on then select the "Wireless Networks" Tab. Make sure "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked then press OK.

 

  

 

Are you connected to your wireless router? Let us see:

 

To make sure you can see your router, do the following steps:

1. Click on Start  then click on “Run”

 

 

 

2. On the command line, type "cmd" then click OK.

 

 

3. You will see a window that will look like

 

 

4. Type "ipconfig" (See ) then press ENTER on the keyboard.

 

 

5. Type "ping 192.168.1.1" (NOTE: the number after "ping" is the number pointed to by  )

 

6. If you are connected to your router, you will get a message similar to:

 


Anything else means you are not connected to your wireless router.

 

Are you connected to the internet? Let us see:

 

To make sure you are connected to the internet, do the following steps:

1. Click on Start  then click on “Run”

 

 

 

2. On the command line, type "cmd" then click OK.

 

 

3. You will see a window that will look like

 

 

4. Type "ping www.yahoo.com" and you should see a message like:

 

Anything else means you are not connected to the internet.

 

If you are not connected to your wireless router, make sure you go through “Before we start check list” at the beginning of this article or contact the manufacturer.
